It s easy to take for granted things that are always there for you. As much as this applies to the important people in your life (paging Carolyn Hax!), what I m talking about here is in the kitchen - the items you use every day, such as knives, skillets, dish towels and cutting boards.
You can make a case that all those tools are routinely put through the wringer, but I think the cutting board really takes the most abuse day in, and day out. And I d wager it s the one that many of us, me included, don t give enough attention to in terms of maintenance.

The Washington Football Team is expected to part ways with veteran quarterback Alex Smith in the coming days, according to a person with knowledge of the situation, ending Smith s storied comeback with the team after one season.
After returning from a compound leg fracture he suffered during a game in November of 2018, Smith went 5-1 as a starter last season to lead Washington on a four-game winning streak that helped it clinch an NFC East title - its first in five years.

Eddie Garza says his tortilla soup is an easier version of the one his grandmother made when he was growing up in South Texas, with one significant swap: He uses mushrooms instead of chicken.
But if you know (and therefore love) tortilla soup, you know that the chicken is really not the star, anyhow. The way I see it, there are two stars - the broth and the toppings you stir into it. The most important of the latter is the tortillas (so important the soup is named for them), which add body and heft the way, say, noodles or rice would. They go on crunchy, and that keeps them from losing their texture and falling apart when you stir them in.

RIO DE JANEIRO - The senior health official looked into the camera, eyes wide. He had a message for those who wouldn t stop partying, wouldn t wear a mask, wouldn t take the coronavirus seriously. We have no ICU beds for your mother, Rondônia state Health Secretary Fernando Máximo said. We have no ICU beds your father, your aunt, your son, your girlfriend. We have no ICU beds for you.
On the opposite end of the country, more than 1,000 miles away, Santa Catarina state Health Secretary André Motta had a similar warning: We are reaching capacity! And in the northeast: Our health system will reach capacity and Brazil will be in chaos in two weeks, Bahia state Gov. Rui Costa said.
